Ready for Another Full Moon?
Happy halloween, a little early, but it's oging to be a busy week! Work, work, ribbon cutting, dinner date with a girl friend, work, halloween party, work, women's power network, FRIDAY! I hate to say it out loud, but I'm a bit ahead of the game for once! Here is a review of my stitching progress for the month...
A finish!!
Shepherd's bush, Roberts Stocking for son-in-law Robert.
Another finish!!!
Susan Greening Davis, Susan's Needle Nook was a start from my year of "start something new every Sunday" phase. I thought it might make a special Christmas gift. I have one that I made at one of Susan's classes several years ago and use it all the time. Went to Jo-Anns yesterday, used my new really cool iphone ap, and bought some wool felt for 50% off... will do the finish finish work on it in November, when I put together all the ornaments!
A new start... I couldn't wait and boy, am I loving this....
Ink Circles, Cirque des Coeurs. Heading out to the stitchin spot as soon as I'm done here to put some more stitches in this...
Eleanor and I spent some time working on Callie's quilt this month. I just love those EMS babies I (and some round robin participants) stitched years ago....
But I really love the fabric I chose to go on the quilt...
It just makes all the colors in the babies POP!
I have never made a quilt before. probably never will... this has been a learning experience... I thought the easiest thing to do would be to determine the largest stitch count from all of the babies, and then add a couple inches, ie 28 threads, and then run a basting stitch around each block, after they all had the same thread count... makes sense, right? So I did that. Cut 3 of them out, laid them next to each other and they were all 3 different sizes! We figure it must have something to do with tension, amount of stitches, different fabric lots... so back to the drawing board. Made a template out of that plastic sheeting, cut all the blocks to the same size. Ran into a lady at the quilt/fabric shop who had made a quilt out of cross stitched blocks and she said "make sure you use lightweight pellon iron on interfacing on the back side of all the cross stitch to keep the batting from pilling thru. So, again yesterday I used my handy dandy Jo-Ann iphone ap and bought 6 yards of pellon (because you can never have too much...) for the price of 3 yards. The interfacing is all ironed on, now I am going to run a basting stitch 4 threads in on all 4 sides as a stitch guide... Callie is only 7, I figure I got a few more years to get this thing done....
I was gifted this beautiful piece by my sweet friend Julie. She knows my love of mermaids and my fear of peyote...
I just love it! Thank you again Julie!!!
Our community was furtunate to host the 2012 United States Police Canine Association National Field Trials October 15-18. 140 K-9 teams from across the country competed in agility, suspect search, article search and apprehension. They held their competitions at various community parks during the day and on the last day of competitions they held a public demonstation at the sports park. It was amazing to see these teams at work..
The K-9 demo was followed with a demo from our Charlotte County Sheriff department SWAT team..
Last night I took the Charlotte County Historical Society's Indian Springs Cemetery tour. I was a bit of a chicken, so I signed up for the 6pm tour, while it was still daylight! The tour wasn't a jump out and scare the crap out of you in the cemetery type tour, thank goodness! It was well done, with guides and history of the area and stories/lore/fact/fiction about some of the famous and not so famous people from our community.
Our first spirit guide, the Grave Digger...
Governor Gilchrist welcomed us...
The governonr passed away in 1926. One of the show places in our community is named after him, Gilchrist Park. Halloween is a big deal in the historical section of our community, residents spend weeks decorating their homes. The Governors Last Will and Testament provided a fund that continues to provide ice cream for all that want it each Halloween night in Gilcrist Park.
Another spirit guide
Captain Johnson's daughter told us about her untimley drowning death...was it a conspiracy? What ever happened to that 2 carat diamond engagement ring????
Murder at the dinner table...
The legend of Big 6, a local prostitute...a she.... or not....???
The baby section of the cemetery...
This was not on the tour, but I thought it was such a beautiful, yet sad memorial. This infant died at age 1 day, in 1903.
I'm sorry if cemetery photos frak you out, but I find cemeterys to be quite tranquil. i love the monuments, the memorials, the symbolism. I'm planning some outtings to take more photos. I would love to know more of the area's history.
And finally, an almost full moon rising last night..
Happy stitching!
